Social media have triggered profound shifts in how we communicate and collaborate. For learning professionals, this shift offers unique opportunities for improving performance in the workplace while reducing costs associated with formal training events. However, social media can sometimes be viewed as disruptive causing us to rethink how work – and learning – happens. Peer-rating and tagging of content and collaborative authoring, for example, disrupt the traditional role of many corporate training departments. This session will explore how organizations can use social media tools to support learning that is increasingly informal and user-driven.
